You may not be aware of this, but some applications may be running on your phone's background. These applications cause your phone to function slower than expected as some background applications consume needed resources. Though not all background applications should be closed all the time, some of them may need to be closed in order to give your phone some "breathing room". If you try to open an application and it crashes (after pressing the icon to launch it the app does not appear) clearing out all the background applications often fixes the problem.
This wiki will discuss the task switcher / active applications panel and how to close background applications on both iOS 7 and iOS 6 and below. iOS 7 is preloaded on the iPhone 5S and 5c. Some older model iPhones can run iOS 7 so you will need to first determine if you are running iOS 6 or 7.

Sorry apple still hasn't clued in that you might want to just remove them all. At least I couldn't find a way. Please update this wiki if you figure out a way. :)

Things to note
- Tapping on the application's icon from the panel opens the application's window.

By closing an on going application on your phone, you should start on opening the running app list. In the iOS 7, it has a new feature on how you can kill or close a running application on your iPhone in iOS7. Traditionally for iOS 6, you need to double press the home button on your phone then it will show the list of apps that are running on screen then you are going to tap and hold the app icon for you to remove it from the background. To kill the running application on your iPhone or iOS, double press the home button on your phone and on the list of applications that will be shown on your screen, you just need to tap the app you want then drag it up and to let it fly to kill or remove it from the queue. If you have a lot of those apps, then you need to do it one by one to remove the application from the queue.
If find it too annoying to do it one by one and if so that you have more than 30 apps running on your phone that can slow or to consume your phone battery drastically. There is one solution to that to kill those running applications on your phone at once. However, your iPhone must be Jailbroken for you to download an application from Cydia. If ever you have Jailbroke the phone, you just need to search for the app called "Purge", once it has been downloaded and installed. What you need to do is double press the home button then tap and hold an all then a pop up message will come on to as you "Kill all pages?" and select yes.
How to close open apps on phone so phone will keep a charge longer?
I am unable to drag icons to the top of screen
You do not need to drag icons. By tapping icons, you can only launch them. By tapping and holding icons, you can move them around, group them, or uninstall them. Double-press the home button to initiate the closing process. Then, just tap on the application that you want to close and slide it upwards.
For a longer battery overall lifespan, do not discharge it fully and do not keep it charged at 100 % for too long. For a longer battery life between charges
- decrease the volume of the phone;
- closing applications may not affect the battery life, actually: to really close applications, you need to go to "Settings" > "General" > "Background App Refresh" and disable as many applications as you can. This will be the true way to "close applications";
- in "Settings" > "Notifications", disable notifications for as many applications as possible;
- in "Settings" > "Wallpaper & Brightness", turn off the "Auto-Brightness" option;
- in "Settings" > "General" > "Spotlight Search", disable "Siri Suggestions" and all of the "SEARCH RESULTS" options;
- in "Settings" > "Cellular", scroll down to the bottom. Disable "WiFi Assist".
I have a new iPhone 5S, and I need to close all of the applications. My battery won't go beyond 1/4th of a charge?
I need to close my apps so I can charge my battery to a full charge,
-
1
First of all, use the official USB cable from Apple and connect it to the wall outlet with a charger to get full charging speed
.
You can also use the USB port on the back of your computer that goes directly from the motherboard (do not use extension cords).
-
2
Then, unlock your phone and press the home button twice quickly.
-
3
Swipe all of the applications upwards to close them.
-
4
-
5
-
6
-
7
Tap on "Background App Refresh".
-
8
Disable as many applications as possible
.
Leave any messaging applications or other applications that really need updating when not shown on the screen.
-
9
If you still encounter this problem, please view our tutorial on how to increase the battery life of iPhone devices.
If your battery is still stuck at the 1/4th charge even if left charging overnight, then
- fix iPhone battery percentage problem;
- bring the phone to an Apple service center for repairs.
